At the crack of dawn this morning I was walking to the ladies bathroom to pee when I crossed paths with a man in his 50s walking out of the toilets in his daggy, flanelete pyjamas back to his van. That is when it dawned on me… The only other time in my life that I have felt so vunerable and everything is as it is, cards on the table is child birth.
It amazes me. You drag your body out of bed, hair all over the place past half a camp site to use a common toilet and shower ( god knows who has used it before you). Once your ready, your way to take care of the days duties. You hang your clothes, undies and all on lines in the common area for all to see. Thats not the only dirty laundry for all to see, all family disagreements and discussions and all discipline of children is out in the open for all those around you to look and make judgment and shake their head. So as it turns our I learnt today that camping and childbirth are similar in so many ways…..

Hi Natalie, it reminds me if when we go to Merry Beach, up in the morning, throw a cardy over my nighty and off to the toilet, quite a walk, pass the man cleaning the pool, who always wants to talk, not good at that time of the morning, pass anyone else who wants to say good morning and finally to the loo. I envy those who have the control to get dressed before this adventure. Love Margy

Dear Nat, Camping and childbirth have nothing in common, sometimes camping can be hard work whereas childbirth must be easy otherwise they wouldn’t let women do it….lol .
I agree – camping is as painful as childbirth – only at least at the end of childbirth you get a beautiful little baby!
